Saxa Vord Distillery

Distillery of the Shetland Distillery Company, the most northerly in the United Kingdom and the first legal distillery in the Shetland Islands. Founded in 2013 in the former RAF Saxa Vord base at Haroldswick on the island of Unst by Stuart and Wilma Nickerson (The Malt Whisky Company) and Frank and Debbie Strang. Whiskies under the Shetland Reel brand combine cask-strength single malts selected from Speyside, Highland and Islay distilleries, which travel 16 hours by ferry to Unst, where they are reduced to 47% using pure island water and bottled by hand.
