#1 History
A five-generation Le Lay family saga distilling cider brandy since 1921. Founder Guy Le Lay, a maths teacher, built the distillery in 1986 at Pont-Menhir, Plomelin, in Brittany, beside 5,000-year-old standing stones that inspired the label. Guided by Cognac master blender Robert Leauté, he launched the world's first buckwheat whisky in 2002 — Eddu Pur Blé Noir — choosing the grain for its powerful, original character despite yielding far less than barley.
