Waterford Heritage Hunter
Waterford
Description
Hunter is a tasty but largely forgotten barley variety. Named after pioneering plant breeder Herbert Hunter, it was introduced in 1959 and praised for its distinctive flavour. After two decades, however, this rare and “revolutionary” barley faded in favour of higher-yielding varieties. ABV: 50% Nose: minerals and ozone mingling with pronounced cereal notes, dried barley, birch, lemon curd and warm apple purée. Palate: a lovely oily flow with a subtly spiced entry (clove), alongside banana bread, freshly cut pears (peeled), lime zest and honeyed applesauce. Also earthy, chalky and slightly drying.
