Akashi Red
Akashi
Description
500 ml bottle. Region: Eigashima Shuzó. Akashi is the only whisky in the world crafted by a Toji (grand master in the art of sake-making) by applying sake-brewing methodologies to the whisky-making process. The pot still used is smaller than those in Scottish and Japanese distilleries, which in turn reduces alcohol levels. As a result, Akashi whisky doesn’t require such a long ageing period, while its malt core (cask strength) is smooth and delicate. Akashi Red is a blended whisky rested in Japanese Shochu (American oak) casks for 3 years, aged in ex-bourbon barrels before finishing in ex-sherry casks for 2 years. NOTES Appearance: Bright coppery gold. Nose: Fruity, with notes of lemon, grape, and apple, with fresh pine and sweet spice touches. Palate: Fruit persists, with wood and pine notes. Finish: Medium, with oak, vanilla, and warm spice notes. Summary: A Japanese blended whisky with the complexity of ex-Shochu cask ageing.
